The Centre for Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC) is one of the unique pedagogic approaches used at SPJIMR. DOCC was established with the intention of imbibing the spirit of social responsibility in future mangers as well as to provide management inputs to the social sector. In keeping with its theme of sensitizing and raising social awareness, the DOCC organized a unique event for its students. After briefing the participants about the DOCC summer projects, wherein the participants spend 6 weeks in the unorganized social sector applying their structured management education, the curtains were raised for 'Ji Jaisi Aapki Marzi' - a Hindi play onWomen Empowerment performed by the Ekjute theatre company, founded under the able guidance of Ms. Nadira Babbar. The purpose behind organizing this particular play to be staged at a management institute like SPJIMR was to sensitize the batch to one of the many social problems that India faces today and to encourage them to assume responsibility towards eliminating such social stigmata. The stellar performances by the artistes made it easy to drive home the point, that women empowerment issues are not confined to any particular region, class or age group but are rather prevalent across the cross section of the Indian society. It was evident from the standing ovation by the audience that the play was able to strike a chord amongst the student community. Keeping in line with the institute's philosophy of 'value-based growth' and 'influencing practice', the event was a step forward in creating awareness about CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
