Ehsaas 2008 - A special evening for special children

February 18, 2008

Ehsaas 2008“Then from the dew drops of tears

We'll create beautiful rainbows…

With the threads of joys & sorrows

We'll weave the fabric of our own life”

Today we see so many achievers who epitomize every word in this poem people who simply disregarded their disability to enhance their life and those of innumerable others like them. They stand on their own with self confidence and self-respect. The valuable mantra they live by is, “You lack nothing. You are only different.”

“Ehsaas” is an event organized by the Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC) cell of SPJIMR, where the participants interact and mingle with differently abled children; not to sympathize with them or pity them but to learn from them the power of the human spirit. Ehsaas provides an opportunity to the participants to laugh, play, sing and dance with the children to make them feel that they are as important a part of this society as we all are.

On the day of Ehsaas, the SPJIMR auditorium was a confluence of joy, happiness and fun. About 250 differently abled children from six organizations participated in the cultural extravaganza. The children and participants swayed to the beat of foot-tapping dance numbers with enthusiasm and energy, shedding all inhibitions and making the evening a memorable one.

The cultural evening was followed by a Fun Fair designed, organized and manned by the SPJIMR participants along with volunteers from the Leo Club of Juhu. Dozens of games and activities were organized in which children from various NGOs like Punarvas, Save the Children, Parents of Downs Syndrome (PODS), KDN Shruti School etc took part. The Fun Fair also had displays of FPH products and paintings from the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists association (MFPA). Other NGOS like Sasi Mangalyam, Save the Children, PODS also displayed products made by their students.

The impact of Ehsaas may not be measurable at the end of the day, but the unforgettable looks on the children's faces are a testimony to the success and the importance of this unique event.
