A seamless confluence of theater and management, the Guild of Actors at SPJIMR (GASP) is a voluntary non-classroom initiative of the PGDBM students under the aegis of the ADMAP program. It is an annual event where the new PGDBM batch displays its mettle at conducting and acting in a full play staged at the SPJIMR auditorium for all its family members.
A well-presented and thoughtprovoking play directed by Anu Mishra and Jyoti Prakash brought Vijay Tendulkar's “Kamla” to life. A haunting masterpiece with its universal appeal, Kamala is an indictment of male society in which women are mere stepping-stones in a man's quest for power and fame. 'GASP 2006' showed the awe-struck audience what legends are truly made of - Sameer Walzade's powerful portrayal of Jaisingh's macho bravado to Meghana Kedar's poignant rendition showcasing Sarita's hopeless resignation and quiet determination, which brought forth instant outrage and tears! While Thejaswi's endearing naiveté and heart-wrenching grief of Kamala tugged at heartstrings, Abhijeet Awasthi's donning Kakasaheb's tired wisdom gripped the audience as time flew by. The audience broke into uproarious laughter with the pert Kamlabai's (Kirti Ramnath) coquettish chagrin and the roughish Jain (Yogesh) drew much appreciation for his sly attempt atworming information from Jaisingh. In the last shot, Jyoti Prakash read out a stirring poem in the background on the woman's dilemma. Lights dimmed slowly and a standing ovation by a stunned audience and thunderous applause followed that refused to die down even as the GASP team took its ceremonial bow.
