‘Influencing practice 'is one of the twin objectives of SPJIMR.As a part of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, its endeavor is to contribute to the social and other sectors like cooperatives and government. It is perhaps the only management institute whose students for last 15 years have been doing their DOCC (Development of Corporate Citizenship) projects of six weeks duration in the social sector. With the objective of developing a long term relationship to help NGOs with the management inputs a MDPforNGOswas organized in September. The event sawaround 76 participants from42NGOsacross the country. TheseNGOsincluded Self Employed Women's association (SEWA), Ecotourism & Conservation Society of Sikkim, Citizens Foundation, The Banyan, Anandi, Relief Foundation, and Aide et Action amongstmany others. This MDP which had no participation fee, covered areas like Strategy Planning, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Finance and Cost Management, Leadership and People Management, Effective Communication, Building an NGO Brand and the use of Management Information System in enhancing the organizational effectiveness. Interactive and collective learning with theoretical framework, case studies, games, films and exercises were a part of the programme. The training was conducted by eminent SPJIMR faculty and experts fromthese fields. The training began with an Inaugural function on September 22nd, 2009. Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta, Chairman Lupin Ltd, delivered the key note address. The functionwas graced by other luminaries like Mr. Gopi Menon, Regional Head UNICEF (India), Mr. Ashokbhai Bhansali fromBhansali Trust, theNGOsand the SPJIMR family. A Social Sector Networking Evening was organized on the second day. Personalities like Ms. Neera Nundy from DASRA, Mr. Vijay Nadkarni from Credibility Alliance, Ms.Leni Choudhary from Sakseria Foundation, Ms. Jyoti Maphsekar from Stree Mukti Sangathna amongst others interacted with theNGOparticipants. MDP-NGO marks a beginning of a new relationship between SPJIMR and theNGOsector.
