| SPJIMR in the Media | Discover Spjimr ~ Media ~ Placements 2007 Creates 85 Millionaires |
|
Two Year Full Time PGDBM Program "Bas ek sawaal... jindagi badal sakta hai," crooned Shah Rukh Khan on Kaun Banega Crorepati. At SPJIMR, the question invariably was "Will you take up this job offer?" Participants at SPJIMR chose their acumen, skills and talent to decide how they'd shape their careers and win their millions during the placement process of 2007. Participants kept toting up offers as companies, impressed by the students' caliber, kept popping the question. By the end of the second day of placements, there were over 430 offers generated. Companies often resorted to the phone-a-friend option, calling up their head-offices and carving out special profiles other than those usually on offer. IT, banking, FMCG, consultancy - firms from all these sectors were in the fray to pick up amongst the best management talent in the country. Over a hundred companies participated in the placement process, with firms like J M Morgan Stanley, Motorola, Enam, J&J Consumer, ABN Amro Bank, Cypress Semiconductors, Halcyon, IDFC, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, J&J Medical, Feedback Ventures, Deutsche Equities, Honeywell Technologies, Sabre Capital, Yes Bank & Avendus Advisors joining in for the first time. The highest domestic salary offered for companies hiring lateral candidates was over Rs. 19.0 Lakhs by GE Commercial Finance. The average salary would be known only after all the offer letters are received but a back of envelope calculation indicated it crossed Rs. 11.0 Lakhs. The domestic salary offered for the management trainee profiles touched as high as Rs. 12.0 Lakhs from Standard Chartered Bank, with many others falling in that range. Faced with offers from firms like Accenture, P&G, Asian Paints, BNP Paribas, CSC, Capgemini Consulting, Citibank, Colgate Palmolive, Cadbury, Deutsche Bank, GE India, Goldman Sachs, Motorola, IBM, ICICI Bank, Intel, ITC, Lehman Brothers, Nestle, Deloitte, RPG, Oracle, SAP, TAS, TSMG, Standard Chartered Bank and many others, participants were offered specialized profiles in their fields of interest. Participants had 4 offers to consider on an average, with the choice set hitting 10 in some cases. ICICI Bank and First Gulf Bank and many others offered international positions for candidates during the process. The highest international offer of 43,000 pounds was by ICICI Bank for a treasury position in UK. Participants had undertaken a two-month Autumns stint from September to November 2006 as part of their course. Realizing the value of work done during this period, many firms made pre-placement offers to candidates who had undertaken projects with them. 55 pre-placement offers were put forward to SPJIMR candidates, of which 45 PPOs were accepted. This year's placement process saw more than 160 lateral offers generated for 65 candidates. SPJIMR saw 85 millionaires created during the placement process of 2007. The question on who can be a millionaire already seems answered. With the strong progress on SPJIMR's placement front year on year, the answer to "Kaun Banega Crorepati" does not seem too far away.
