OVERVIEW

UDDYAM is an annual entrepreneurship event, which aims to promote entrepreneurship and innovation at grassroots and inspire the younger generation towards the spirit of free enterprise. True to its objective UDDYAM culminates into an enterprise building exercise and goes beyond typical discussions and b-plans. The event begins on 15th January and ends into Incubation of concrete business proposals, by National Innovation Foundation (NIF) with a Rs. 4 Crores fund set up with the support of SIDBI.

At UDDYAM we provide an ecosystem for innovators, entrepreneurs and corporate organizations to build new opportunities, establish networks and promote exchange of funds and expertise.

UDDYAM will be organized by Entrepreneurship Committee at SPJIMR, at the SPJIMR, Mumbai on 14th February'08.

BACKGROUND

The pragmatism of the citizens of India has led to many innovations at the grass root level. We have seen many brilliant creations made out of sheer necessity to tide over nagging problems giving credence to the adage "necessity is the mother of all inventions". But, alas, many of these inventions have not been able to realize their true potential as their commercial viability is still hazy. There is a huge divide between the innovators and the entrepreneurs who can take these products to the market. One of the reasons for that is, more often than not these innovators are based in villages/rural areas and are not aware of the various factors involved in mass commercialization of their products. On the other hand, there are many budding entrepreneurs and corporate looking out for such products.

Entrepreneurship Committee of S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai along with National Innovation Foundation (NIF) is organizing Uddyam'08 aims to bridge this gap.

The event will feature an innovations exhibition, eminent speakers and a panel discussion. The audience will comprise of students and Family Managed Business Program (FMB) participants, entrepreneurs and corporate sector looking out for marketable agri-business and farm equipments product/solutions suiting their profile.

A prelude to the main event will be SAAKAR- a nation-wide competition which will give the participants an opportunity to launch their enterprises and get incubation at the SPJIMR Incubation cell and funding through NIF partner channels.
