In Aug05, in a major restructuring of the Sales and marketing department in Timken India, I was promoted as the National Sales Manager for the entire distribution business in India. The program has changed my outlook towards my job. It has given me the ability to look at my job from a totally different perspective. The course introduced us to various management tools and techniques, which we are able to relate to and apply to our job. This has benefitted me immensely. Almost every assignment is linked to the company we are working for. Through these learnings we are able to judge our company's performance compared to the benchmarks taught to us. Gradually the course helps us to improve our analytical ability, business planning and peoples skill. The course also taught us that there are many alternatives to how we think and it opens our mind to the strategic approach to the business.

One of the other good things about this course is that it gives us an exposure to other industries as well. In our class we had students from various sectors like IT, Manufacturing, Services etc. By meeting and mingling with them we learn about their best practices. Many of these best practices were equally applicable to my industry as well.

"The first impression of the course was skepticism as to whether in our career we did need to go through this or not. It slowly over time dawned that there were areas that we never did know or never dared to think. The takeaways from this course that I will treasure for a long time are the infinite case studies, the course material compiled from works of several leading authors, attending lectures of visiting professionals, computer aided simulations/management games and finally the application of these concepts to the actual work environment.
