SPJIMR on July 12 celebrated its exciting new course on management and liberal arts by inviting Amish Tripathi, the bestselling author and novelist who has traversed from the world of management to writing books that have sold over four million copies and grossed sales of Rs. 100 crores.

Amish framed his journey from the portals of IIM Calcutta to the financial sector and then to the world of book publishing to an inner balance between the heart and the mind. “To be truly successful, you need your left and right brain working together to find a balance. When your mind and heart work together in sync, you will be successful and happy. Let your heart see the dream, but let the brain do the planning to reach there,” he said.

He was speaking in the SPJIMR auditorium in the presence of participants, faculty members and Prof. Makrand Paranjpe, Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), who is leading the course Management and Liberal Arts, also called MaLA, with Prof. Vineeta Dwivedi. The course is a part of the curriculum for the two year MBA equivalent PGDM programme.

Prof. Paranjpe said Amish Tripathi’s talk today provided a boost to the course, which is currently in mid-stream and has introduced participants, mostly engineers, to newer perspectives.

In reply to a question, Amish Tripathi told participants he listens to music while writing and eats a lot of cream biscuits.

Dean Dr. Ranjan Banerjee told participants that the complex business environment today has less need for specialisations and more of graduates who can connect the dots between data. “You have to accept the ambiguity. There is no need to fight or resist it,” he said.
