SPJIMR & NEN have jointly designed a first-of-its-kind entrepreneurship
project based Course involving students from the Institute's Family Managed
Business and the regular Post Graduate MBA Programs.
One of the unique strengths of SP Jain Institute of Management and Research
(SPJIMR) is its Family Managed Business (FMB) Program. This program brings
together 100+ next generation business family members representing a wide
range of product and service based businesses. They participate annually
in a uniquely designed eighteen-month MBA Program. The FMB Program provides
SPJIMR students with insights into different types of opportunities open
to entrepreneurs, and different paths for pursuing those opportunities.
The course, called Entrepreneurship Project on Business
Analysis has the following objectives:
- Take the students through an introductory course on New Venture Creation
- Develop practical insights on how entrepreneurs manage their business
- Get students to think about different business opportunities - outside
the usual IT/BPO box - by introducing them to a wide range of business
propositions
- Develop the perspective of assessing a business as a Business Analyst,
Investor and Entrepreneur.
- Help students understand and learn how to sell/present their value
proposition and business model.
The two- credit course comprises of the following
modules:
- Introductory course on New Venture Creation. (10-sessions)
- Workshops (half-day): 4 in number each focusing on a key aspect of
Entrepreneurship with practical insights from the constituents of the
entrepreneurial eco-system

- Case study of a first generation entrepreneur. Each student
selects an entrepreneur of his or her choice for submitting a case study
on the entrepreneur.
- Business Analysis
A team comprising MBA and FMB students take up the FMB student's business
for an in depth study. The conceptual input for the study is provided
through the workshops and from the course on New Venture Creation. Practical
insights are provided by real time exposure to the business. The MBA
team assumes the role of Business Analyst who 'sells' the business proposition
to investors and the FMB student that of the Entrepreneur.
Student teams submit an Executive Summary for the business studied
by them
-
Presentation at "Lock-Stock-Trade":
The combined student teams make a presentation of the business proposition
of each family managed business in terms of its "investment worthiness"
over the long term before an "investors" gathering and a
jury panel.
