| Our Philosophy | Discover Spjimr ~ What SPJIMR Stands For ~ Our Philosophy |
|
SPJIMR, in all its activities is guided by its mission on focusing on the twin objectives of "Influencing Practice" and "Promoting value based growth". These missionary objectives form the first two pillars upon which rests
the edifice of our educational pedagogy and development. The other three
pillars, which support this edifice and give a unique definition to SPJIMR,
are:
Social relevance and Responsiveness determine the scope of what we do while the other two determine how we do it. SPJIMR is learner centric, service oriented and endeavours to work for
the benefit of under privileged sectors of the economy.
The SPJIMR course curriculum is a melting pot of ideas meant to
nudge participants towards making a mature judgment. To arrive at this,
the participant goes through a process of self-examination, assessing
tangible as well as intangible factors that determine a particular situation,
and their relevance.
SPJIMR curriculum encourages a co-operative outlook that recognizes the value of sharing and mutual respect. Inculcation of values merits the greatest importance at the institute and is emphasized through practical experiential learning as well as by examples, drawing out a desire for authenticity and sincerity.
Management education must play a crucial role, fulfilling the expectations of people. This seems a demanding task for a management institute, requiring great sensitivity and responsiveness, which alone can generate a socially relevant curriculum. SPJIMR attempts this by using the freedom of functioning as an autonomous institution. Individuals need to, and must pursue material progress for society to prosper as a whole. But cognizance must be taken of the possible degeneration when the pursuit goes to extremes.
Much of management education has grown in the West. The earlier
experiences of growth have generally not recognized resource constraints
and have based their ethos on the philosophy of individualism, leading
to the development of fierce competitiveness as a way of life. The global
context today is different. Today, collaboration is a normal phenomenon.
Through collaborative effort, it is possible to optimise the use of limited
resources, leading to a more appropriate and relevant practice.
It must be stressed that a management institute cannot function in a vaccum but needs to operate within a wider social and cultural environment, and understand the Socio-economic processes that are shaping business. SPJIMR's endeavour therefore, is to amalgamate these diverse perceptions and demands in order to generate a more relevant and significant management education for India. In this respect, SPJIMR attempts to be seen as a major trendsetter in management education today. Believing itself to be a part of a larger effort, SPJIMR has much to learn from the:
Integrating these perspectives into a well-designed curriculum results
in more creative and socially aware citizens.
