Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations

This year the theme for Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at SPJIMR was 'Non-violence' keeping in mind that 2nd October is celebrated the world over as 'International Non-violence Day.' The event started off with the singing of National Anthem by the faculty members and students who had assembled for the celebrations. Participants of PGDSM-MIT sang the song 'Dedi Hame Aazadi' and paid tribute to Bapu. Participants from PGDM then presented a movie on Mahatma Gandhi's ideologies and they stressed on the relevance of the Gandhian thought in today's world. An essay competition was held in the week prior to Gandhi Jayanti, the topic of the essay being 'International Non-Violence Day- Is it just another holiday?' Pratibha Ryali of PGDSMMIT was adjudged the winner of the competition. In her essay, Pratibha stressed that the non-violent ways of a nation do not cast a shadow on its competence. A video making competition was also organized with the top 3 videos being screened on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Lakshmi and Suniti of PGDSM-MIT won the competition, the topics for which were quotes by Mahatma Gandhi himself 'The Best way to find you is to lose yourself in service of others' and 'We must be the change we wish to see.'

A participant from the PGPM batch then performed Raghu Pati Raghav Raja Ram on his guitar. The event concluded with the screening of the movie 'Gandhi' which showcases the pivotal role that the Father of the Nation played in achieving India's independence by following the path of non-cooperation and non-violence.
