Seminar on Towards a More Valuable Donor-With Mal WarwickIntroduction: A one-day seminar on " Towards a More Valuable Donor " was organized on the 15th of Sep 2008 by the Centre for Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC) of S.P. Jain Institute of Management in association with Resource Alliance; UK.The purpose of the seminar was to familiarize the participants with the various principles and techniques of fund raising. The seminar was meant for all the participants of CPRMM training program and office bearers of non government organizations who are keen to understand the techniques of " stewardship"," donor care" and " relationship fund raising".

Workshop Content: The key topics covered in the seminar include

  • Donor Motivation
  • Maslow's hierarchy of needs
  • Keys to strong donor relationships
  • Donor Segmentation
  • Role of staff and board and CEO in sustaining donor care.

Learning Outcome:

  1. Participants gained a deeper understanding of donor motivation based on psychological research as well as down-to-earth experience in managing donor development programmes.
  2. They learnt about the practical techniques that NGOs could follow to respond to donors' needs, both real and perceived.
  3. They were able to acquire the tools necessary to apply the principles of segmentation to their donor management programmes to increase their cost-effectiveness.Seminar on Towards a More Valuable Donor-With Mal Warwick

Participants: Around 50 participants from different NGOs across Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala attended the program . The participants came from a wide range of organizations such as Impact (India),Save the Children, Habitat for Humanity etc.

Speaker: Mal Warwick, chair of the international board of the Resource Alliance, has been a practicing fundraiser for nearly 30 years. He has worked with hundreds of NGOs, helping them to raise more than half a billion U.S. dollars (largely in the form of small gifts). He is the author, co-author, or editor of 18 books and teaches fundraising all across the globe. Mal's company, Mal Warwick Associates (www.malwarwick.com), which specializes in direct marketing online and via the mail, is one of the leading fundraising consultancies in North America.

Seminar Feedback:

The participants gave a very positive feedback and felt that a seminar of this kind is valuable for those who want to develop their skills in specific areas of fund raising They felt that the seminar was a great learning experience. It helped them to gain a greater understanding of donor motivation and the techniques explained by Mal were indeed useful in relationship fund raising. It also provided them with a platform for networking and meeting with other fund arising professionals.
