Can I be self-sponsored? Is company
sponsorship a must? |
| A. |
Sponsorship does not necessarily
mean that the organization has to fund your fees. It is not mandatory
that the company pay the fees but at the same time you require the
full support of the organization from the viewpoint of the following:
- getting time off from company work to attend on-campus contact
periods -9 days at a stretch in a quarter and 60 days over an
18 month period
- getting company information for doing Application exercises
which is a vital component of the pedagogy of the program
- assistance in identifying a real-life issue for Project work
and
- infrastructure support- PC, internet access, etc.
- having a 'Mentor' from your organisation.

What
happens if I miss a contact/ classes? |
| A. |
Ideally, you should not miss classes.
Exigency of work as an excuse to miss class/ contact is not appreciated.
The fact that we are insisting on company sponsorship is to ensure
that the organizational work does not come in the way of studies during
the tenure of the program. You run the risk of missing out on on-campus
evaluations of group-work, simulations etc. apart from the knowledge
from the class sessions, and class discussion.
Missing one contact period is equivalent to missing 16.6% of the on-campus
sessions.
In the extreme event of your missing classes, you will have to
make up on your own.

What
are Application exercises? |
| A. |
Application exercises are assignments
where the concepts studied in class are applied to a real-life situation
in the organization that a participant represents. Application exercises
reinforce the learnings garnered in class and enable a participant

Examples of Application exercises :

a report on the financial health of the company

your company and segregate the product lines on the basis of growth,
maturity and decline in potential; identify the rationale for
continuing each product line- would you add/ delete any product
item(s) from the existing product line

What
is the value of the program? |
| A. |
The EMP has been designed on the
lines of the Advanced Management Program of Harvard, but for middle
level managers. The high degree of application oriented learning and
contextual customization has enabled both participants and companies
to reap rich dividends from the program. Participants after enrolling
for the EMP have been able to effect change and influence management
practice. Companies have recognized this and offered them senior positions
of responsibility in charge of strategic business units both in India
and abroad. Participants have gained 8 to 10 years over contemporaries
after doing the EMP. The EMP has also enabled companies to retain
talent and manage scarce talent in a more effective manner.
